Do you know how to get paid in construction?

extended payment terms

CMG UK have a strong background in construction and many of our clients work in this sector. We often find they have issues getting paid so we have put together a new course designed specifically at this sector.

How to get paid in construction

Many of our clients are classed as a subcontractor by their customer (usually a main contractor) regardless of if their provision is covered under the construction scope, because it’s easier for the QS. We use CIS (HMRC’s Construction Industry Scheme) scope to determine if a supply should be subcontract or it is out of the scope, this course covers how to check and push back when given a sub contract when it should be a purchase contract.

Invoices

If the client has agreed to a subcontract, they often fail to understand their contractual obligations, such as submitting an Application for Payment instead of a sales invoices, how the Application should be set out and what back up to include, the date the Application should be submitted. This course covers getting Applications paid in construction  with template applications provided. We also discuss CIS and reverse VAT implications.

Payment

Then there is payment, subcontracts have a mechanism for payment and also the main contractor also has a part to play in providing payment notices within a specified time frame. We also discuss using the Construction Act (Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996 as amended, supplemented and superseded  by The Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Act 2009  )  and its implications.

We also have a new, companion credit control course,  commercial awareness training that gives a greater understanding of basic contract law which assists companies in construction as well as other sectors. We have a special offer on for 20% discount if both courses are booked at the same time.
